Infundibular

Horse’s upper cheek teeth each have 2 central structures known as infundibula (giving the name of this restoration as infundibular-restoration). It is quite common for these structures to be incompletely filled during development, leaving a hole at the base that can fill with feed and cause severe decay. Left untreated, these can progress to painful apical (‘tooth root’) infections or tooth fracture requiring extraction. However with timely diagnosis we can often restore these teeth with a ‘filling’ which should help prevent further deterioration and allow the horse to keep the tooth.
