Project Description
Routine Dental Maintenance
The most important part of any routine dental maintenance appointment is a thorough examination. Many of the most painful conditions affecting our equine patients can only be seen, they can’t be felt.
This means a thorough oral examination using a powerful light, a mirror or endoscope, a full mouth speculum and a relaxed patient, are essential and allow us to pick up small problems and treat them before they become much more serious.
The idea that dentistry is just ‘rasping off some sharp points’ is very out-dated and misinformed. Of course we treat these as well, but by thoroughly examining the whole masticatory system, we can often pick up subtle changes that can have huge implications for the comfort of your horse.
